January Wolf Supermoon 2026: How to See the Full Moon Rise with Jupiter (2026)

The 'Wolf Supermoon' is a celestial event that will light up the night sky this weekend. On January 3rd, 2026, the first full moon of the year, known as the Wolf Moon, will rise in the east at dusk. This full moon will be a supermoon, appearing brighter and larger than usual. The Wolf Moon gets its name from the belief that wolves were more likely to howl during this time of year. It's also the fourth consecutive supermoon and the last one until November. The best time to witness this phenomenon is at moonrise, when it will be positioned between a star and a very bright planet. On its left will be Pollux, a bright star in the constellation Gemini, and on its right will be Jupiter, the 'king of planets,' which will be at its brightest opposition in 2026 just a week later. This full moon will also make the highest arc through the night sky of any full moon, as seen from the Northern Hemisphere, due to its proximity to the winter solstice. The next full moon, the Snow Moon, will follow on February 1st, 2026.
